On September 25, the Solana Foundation appointed former Binance Global Chief Marketing Officer Rachel Conlan as chief strategy officer and introduced Jamal Raees in charge of payments operations, according to CoinDesk. Binance, Solana and institutional collaboration in the payment ecosystem

The Solana Foundation announced the appointment of former Binance Global Chief Marketing Officer Rachel Conlan as chief strategy officer and hired Jamal Raees as general manager for payments operations on September 25, according to CoinDesk, citing PANews. Two new executives from headquarters exchanges and payment infrastructure sectors point to the same thing: the Solana foundation is focusing its ecosystem-building efforts on chain growth, developer collaboration, further push into institutional partnerships, corporate residency and payments scenarios.

From market growth to enterprise access: Conlan in charge of strategic and institutional collaboration

Rachel Conlan previously worked at Binance for three years as Global Chief Marketing Officer before leaving in June of this year. After joining, she will be responsible for leading institutional partnerships, ecosystem growth and strategic work related to attracting more businesses into Solana.

For the Open Chain Foundation, this kind of position is not just about brand communication but connecting developers' ecosystems, corporate customers and institutional partners with resources on the chain. Three years at Binance means that Conlan is familiar with user growth in the crypto market, brand operations, and organizational communications.

General Manager of Payments Business Unit: Raees with additional infrastructure experience

The Solana Foundation has also hired Jamal Raees as the general manager of payments operations. He joins from Polygon Labs, where he previously worked at stablecoin infrastructure company Bridge (now affiliated with Stripe) and crypto payment firm Wyre.

Payment is one of the easiest interfaces to real-world commerce in a cryptocurrency chain. Scenarios such as stablecoin transfers, merchant settlements and cross-border payments require chains, wallets, fiat withdrawals, risk controls and compliance processes to work together. Raees' track record at companies related to payment infrastructure like Bridge and Wyre has enabled Solana Foundation to have more product, customer and financial connections on the payment direction.

Signals from the Human Resources Portfolio: Solana competition enters corporate downgrade phase

This adjustment does not directly relate to pricing, on-chain metrics or product releases, but it reveals the focus of Solana Foundation's next phase: Not just telling performance and developer stories, but putting who can use Solana and how to do so in a more prominent position.

There are three directions to follow: whether the Solana Foundation will announce more enterprise-level collaboration cases, especially in payment, settlement and brand access scenarios; whether the payments business will revolve around specific products such as stablecoins, merchant services, cross-border clearing etc.; or if Conlan and Raees can translate their experience from Binance, Polygon Labs, Bridge, Wyre into a growth model that is replicable within the Solane ecosystem.
