Bitget clarifies $3.88 million in assets affected by security breach

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget released an update to the security incident on Friday, revising the size of affected assets from approximately $352 million previously disclosed to about $388 million and confirming that it will continue to suspend submissions. Tracking at on-chain revealed that around $38.75 million in assets had been transferred to addresses controlled by attackers, making this one of the largest security incidents in the industry.

Why the increase in losses?

Bitget explained in an update that the revised figures reflect more complete statistics on transfers during events, adding impacted assets across the Zcash and TRON networks not included in the initial estimate. The company emphasized that the increase does not imply any new unauthorized transfers and that the event is still under control with no further unauthorised transfers occurring.

The addresses affected by this incident include the Ethereum Virtual Machine ( EVM ) network, XRP Ledger, Zcash and TRON . There are more types of stolen assets, including XRP , Ethereum ( ETH ), Tether 's USDT ( USDT ), Zcash , USDC , USDT0, XAUT , BNB , AVAX and TRX .

Bounty Scheme and Follow-up

In order to recover the assets, Bitget has launched a bounty program that incentivizes all parties to assist in freezing or retrieving stolen funds. The exchange said it will continue suspending withdrawals until disposal is complete.

Location in industrial safety incidents

Even without considering the possibility of a follow-up, this incident has become one of the largest security incidents in the history of the crypto industry. The previous record was Bybit : In February 2025, hacker stole about $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum from the platform, which is still the highest amount ever stolen by an exchange.

For users, follow-up points of concern include: when Bitget will resume withdrawals; whether the bounty program can lead to asset freezes or partial recalls; and if the attacker's affiliation will be further confirmed.
