A little-known inside look at the FBI's annual Cryptocrime Conference
Although the seminar was not a secret event, its media exposure has been low. Its public traces come mainly from occasional social posts by attendees rather than official announcements of the FBI and lack large-scale publicity as is common in commercial crypto conferences.
token Recovery executive Roman Bieda confirmed in a post on LinkedIn that the 2024 conference has been held in Austin.
Bieda is attending the conference for the third time. According to him, it brings together professionals from public and private sectors around the world to discuss threats such as money laundering, ransomware , human trafficking and fraud related to cryptocurrency .
From an In-Government Meeting to a Platform for Industry Exchange
According to a person interviewed by CoinDesk, the early participants of this event were mainly government agencies and public sector officials.
Since then, the conference has gradually expanded in size with a significant increase of crypto industry representatives.
The workshop emphasized practicality, with the aim of informing attendees about the latest attack tactics, which defense techniques have proven effective and how North Korea's hacker organizations launch attacks against crypto companies.
In April, hacker gained control of the DEX , which is based on Solana , and stole more than $270 million by manipulating token as collateral.
Sharing encrypted threat intelligence
One attendee said that the FBI's seminar was deliberately kept low key, in contrast to large crypto conferences with bright venues and heavy marketing. The rising level of industry involvement is also reflected on the sidelines by today's law enforcement efforts which have relied heavily on crypto companies, blockchain analyst firms and security researchers to identify attackers and track the flow of stolen funds.
