Trump discloses plans to buy up to $100,000 worth of strategic stocks in ethics filings
President discloses crypto-related stock trades
According to a filing released Tuesday by the US Office of Government Ethics, President Donald Trump disclosed that he bought between $5,000 and $100,000 worth of Strategy shares in July. The document shows that this purchase occurred on July 27, just three days after he made a smaller transaction for the same amount ranging from $1,0001 to $15,000.
In addition to this purchase, the filing also involved transactions in several crypto-related businesses, including purchases of Coinbase stock and July sales of shares in bitcoin mining companies MARA Holdings and CleanSpark. The July 27 acquisition of Strategy was by far the largest among all crypto-linked deals listed in the document.
According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET records, the size of this transaction is comparable with Trump's previously disclosed largest Strategy purchase at $1,500,000 and $100,000 on February 12. The account also reported smaller amounts of Strategy stock bought and sold during the year.
It should be noted that because the filing is in a range of amounts rather than holding balances, it does not reflect how many Strategy shares are left in Trump's current account.
Limited share in overall asset operations
The Strategy purchase is only a small part of the overall asset operation in July. Documents show that Trump sold $5 million to $25 million worth of Microsoft and Amazon shares on July 20, as well as several trades between $1 million and $5 million during the same period.
On Tuesday, the White House told CNBC that Trump's equity and debt portfolios are managed independently by third-party financial institutions without any involvement from Trump himself or his family.
According to Yahoo Finance, Strategy's shares have risen nearly 30% in the last five trading days and about 37% over the past month.
Disclosure of the validity period for crypto policy
The timing of the disclosure comes as the Trump administration continues to roll out policies that support America's crypto industry, even though comprehensive market structure legislation is still stuck in Congress.
The Senate failed to advance the CLARITY bill on September 15, but federal regulators have acted under existing authority: two days after a procedural vote was defeated, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved limited-chain trading of tokenized U. S. stocks through temporary waivers; while the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) relaxed registration requirements for software providers that provide access services to regulated derivatives markets in part.
Additionally, on September 17, the CFTC submitted a plan for broader crypto market regulation to the White House for consideration called "Crypto Asset Trading Rules vs. Crypto Assets Market Rules", which is still in its early stages and has not yet formed into a formal proposal.
The government's cryptographic policy layout also extends to bitcoin itself. Last week, the House Financial Services Committee voted 28-21 in favor of a bill that would write into law Trump's proposed Strategic Bitcoin Reserves and require them to be held for at least 20 years.
According to Arkham Intelligence, the US government currently holds an estimated 324,527 bitcoins.
