Bloomberg: United States considers pushing the US$ stablecoin overseas
The Trump administration is considering a new plan to promote the use of US dollar-denominated stablecoin overseas, according to Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter.
Joint venture with government or private enterprise
According to Bloomberg, the government may support stablecoin through joint ventures with private-sector firms. One or more federal agencies involved in this work include the Treasury Department and State Department as well as United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
The central objective of the plan is to promote international use of stablecoin denominated in U.S. dollars, which would indirectly boost overseas demand for American bonds as they are generally backed by US$ United States sovereign debt.
It is worth noting that as this potential move takes place, other countries are also accelerating the deployment of their respective digital payment infrastructures. e-CNY with Chinese participation is an important part of the "Multilateral CBDC Bridge" (Project mBridge) cross-border settlement platform CBDC ; for the European Central Bank, a digital euro pilot is expected to be launched in the second half of 2027, with a test period of 12 months.
Cointelegraph has contacted United States , the Department of Finance, DFC and a number of other companies on the mainland but had not received any response.
United States Officials have repeatedly linked stablecoin to US dollar hegemony
In recent times, senior officials have repeatedly emphasized that the development of USD stablecoin is closely linked to maintaining its global status and expanding demand for sovereign bonds.
In February 2025, David Sacks, a venture capitalist who was head of the White House cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence affairs at the time, said that stablecoin had the ability to "continue dollar dominance internationally" and could bring trillions of dollars in additional demand for United States government debt.
In July 2025, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that the GENIUS Act, which establishes a federal regulatory framework for payment model stablecoin , promises to solidify the US dollar's status as a global reserve currency, expand coverage of the USD economic circle and boost demand for sovereign bonds.
Meanwhile, the Treasury Department is also continuing to implement the GENIUS Act. On August 17, it issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making that publicly solicits community input on provisions related to issuance, distribution and sale of payment form stablecoin . Bessent said these rules would help "stabilize" the dollar's status as world reserve currency.
