Bitcoin (BTC) surged to about $85,000 at the start of a new week, its highest level in nearly eight months. Multiple forces continued to push the market higher. This price not only refreshed the highs since January 29, but also brought U.S. spot bitcoin ETF investors' overall holdings closer to break-even while markets were focused on macroeconomic changes caused by oil prices falling back and diplomatic moves from the United States and Iran.

Bankruptcy clearance breaks through $85,000 after round-up

According to TradingView data, Bitcoin closed at $81,120 on Sunday, its best weekly performance since May 4, and then made a further push Monday reaching an all-time high of $85,248, setting a new 33-week high.

The rapid rise in prices triggered a large-scale liquidation of the crypto market. CoinGlass statistics show that there was over $600 million in total 24-hour liquidations across the entire market, mainly due to voids.

For many market participants, the significance of this rally lies in whether Bitcoin will be able to stabilize above its previous local high of $82,950 that formed in May. Traders and analysts Rekt Capital pointed out last week that bitcoin is at a critical moment when it closes below this position.

At the same time, he reminded that there are signs of a gradual decrease in the RSI's relatively strong indicator at sunset levels while price highs are rising. He believes this shows insufficient intrinsic momentum to support highs and the risk of an abrupt pullback is increasing. As of press time, with prices returning above $84,000, the Sunrise RSI has pushed nearly 70 points into overbought areas.

ETF investors are approaching cost lines, and there is a marked change in the direction of capital flows

Data from the on-chain analytics platform Glassnode shows that as prices rise, a wide range of investor groups are returning to profitability in their entirety, including corporate Bitcoin vaults with holding costs around $80,500. The price is now approaching the synthetic base for U.S. cash bitcoin ETF investors, which currently stands at $85,638.

Exchange-traded products performed strongly at the end of last week, with investors holding onto them as prices soared to $81,000. According to British investment firm Farside Investors, US ETFs had net inflows of $435 million on Friday, a single day high since September 3.

On the policy side, despite the failure of the CLARITY bill to make progress in the Senate last week, both SEC and CFTC regulators pushed forward policies related to crypto assets on Thursday, boosting the performance of crypto concept stocks with a net inflow of $159 million into crypto ETFs that day.

It is worth noting that the structure of capital flows in this round differs from previous ones. The largest Blade iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) did not account for a major share of inflows, being replaced by Fidelity Investments' Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), which absorbed $ 310 million in one day. On-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant commented on its blog: "The key change was not just the warming up of ETF activity but the reallocation of funds dominance".

Oil prices fall below $94 and U.S.-Egyptian talks expected to warm up

US macroeconomic data has been relatively muted this week, with market focus shifting to crude oil and inflation expectations for the remainder of 2026 on an upward trajectory.

WTI crude once topped $100 a barrel last week and fell below $94 on Monday as the market held out new hopes for a diplomatic solution in the Middle East. Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said Sunday that efforts to restart U.S.-Iran negotiations have been stalled over the past few weeks, telling Bloomberg: "There are many proposals being put forward by all sides but this is just one phase of the documentation process where we are trying to bridge differences and find the right momentum".

According to media reports, US President Donald Trump said in a Fox News phone interview on Sunday that he faces the choice of either destroying Iran completely or letting its economy collapse or reaching an agreement with Tehran. He also stated that he would most likely be willing to meet Iranian President Pervez Musharraf during this week's United Nations General Assembly.

Interest rate cuts expected to shift toward higher interest rates Market focused on October Fed meeting

As previously reported, the disruption of several oil transportation routes has had a knock-on effect on global fuel prices. Even though central banks are tightening policy through interest rate hikes, the full impact of supply shocks is not yet fully apparent. Saudi Arabia warned the European Union last week that its refineries will be unable to receive shipments in October.

The latest data from CME Group's FedWatch tool shows that the market now expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates another 0.25% at its October meeting, with a 53% probability as of Monday. CME data also suggests there is close to a 40% chance of a third 0.25% rate hike by year-end. On Tuesday, Richmond Fed Chairman Thomas Barkin will speak at the CFA Society Baltimore about current economic conditions, recent monetary policy developments and their outlook for the U.S. economy, or provide more clues on where policies are headed.

Analysts are optimistic about the resilience of the stock market

U.S. bond yields continued to fall on Monday from their highest in decades as oil prices recovered and borrowing costs fell. The 30-year Treasury yield was 5.301 percent lower than the 5.425-percent high of Sept. 11, the lowest since June 2004.

Bitcoin market participants previously reacted positively to the US bond market intervention in August, and are still closely monitoring yield-related dynamics. In a report written for CME on September 16, JI Financial Strategies CEO Jim Iuorio noted that interventions may constitute a cyclone of liquidity in bitcoin and crypto markets. He said: "The bull market might interpret these actions as shorting dollars, thereby driving capital back into gold and hedging assets such as bitcoins against USD".

Mosaic Asset Company concluded in its latest analysis that stocks are likely to remain strong amid a tightening macroeconomic environment. It concludes: "Even as investors ponder what the Fed rate hike cycle means for the S&P 500, signs of robust economic growth should help sustain earnings prospects".
