The second action against Brown

According to Politico, Fairshake has confirmed the plan against Brown. Brown is currently challenging Republican Senator Jon Husted and this election in Ohio could play a key role in controlling the Senate.

Brown's campaign manager, Patrick Eisenhower, responded in a statement: "The special interests will naturally panic as they know that Sherrod is going to fight the system on which they rely for profit and manipulation and speak out on behalf of Ohio's working class".

Husted served as Lieutenant Governor of Ohio and was appointed to succeed J.D. Vance in the Senate after he became Vice President in January 2025.

This is not the first time that Fairshake has taken on Brown. The organization invested about $40 million to help Republican Bernie Moreno defeat Brown in the 2024 election cycle.

Political fallout after the bill was blocked

The announcement comes as the Senate just voted down a procedural vote on the digital asset Market Clarity Act, which aims to establish a federal-level regulatory framework for crypto markets and splits oversight responsibilities between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The vote was 49 for and 50 against, with 60 votes needed to pass the bill. All Democratic senators in attendance voted "no", while Republicans Susan Collins, Josh Hawley, and Jerry Moran also voted against. Republican Senator Tom Tillis considered turning his vote into a "no" for procedural reasons so that it could be reintroduced at a later date.

After the vote, there is little time left before the mid-term elections on November 3rd and it will be difficult for the bill to advance again in a short period of time.

Stand With crypto , an advocacy group backed by Coinbase also warned of possible election-level consequences from the vote. The organization said it would count senators' voting records in its congressional scoring system and mobilize supporters ahead of elections.

The power of a well-funded industry

Fairshake's primary sources of funding include Coinbase , Ripple and Andreessen Horowitz. As of January 2025, the organization had raised $116 million for the 2026 elections with $108 million remaining at the end of August.

Fairshake claims to support bipartisan candidates who favor crypto-friendly policies. However, its ads typically avoid the topic of encryption and instead focus on other topics that are more likely to appeal to ordinary voters. This tactic has been used in the 2024 general election, as well as this year's congressional primaries.
