Bitcoin Investors Buy Nearly $1 Billion in BTC ETFs as Bull Market Returns
Monday brought nearly $1 billion of fresh demand for U.S. BTC ETFs, with Farside Investors data showing $999 million of new investment into the funds. That was the largest one-day total since October 6, when inflows exceeded $1.2 billion and Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of $126,080.
Bitcoin was recently priced at $86,552 after touching $87,330 earlier in the day. Over the past seven days, its price gained nearly 13%.
ETF demand as a price signal
U.S. Bitcoin ETFs were approved by the SEC in 2024, giving investors a route to Bitcoin exposure that had been harder to access before. Wall Street firms can now move quickly into shares of funds managed by BlackRock, Fidelity, Morgan Stanley, and others. Monday's pattern matched the market's usual read: large ETF purchases often coincide with meaningful price moves.
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin trust took the biggest share of Monday's inflows at $381.4 million. The ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF collected $289.1 million, and Fidelity's Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund received $238.8 million.
Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart said that, after Monday's flows, the estimated ETF cost basis moved above $81,72 for the first time since January. He added that the average ETF buyer was now in profit.
Macro backdrop behind renewed interest
The return of buying pressure followed a cooling of the artificial intelligence stock rally and a U.S. Department of the Treasury statement in August that it would at least double the size of its liquidity-support buyback operations.
Analysts said that move pushed 30-year Treasury yields down, weakened the dollar, and made assets such as Bitcoin more attractive. After the announcement, Bitcoin had its best run in years.
CryptoQuant sees a bull-market signal
CryptoQuant, a crypto market data firm, said in a Tuesday report that Bitcoin had crossed above its 365-day moving average. The firm treated that as a signal that the asset had finished being in a bear market.
Bitcoin Magazine, by Mathew Di Salvo, reported the ETF inflows as a sign that Bitcoin buyers had returned.
