Strategy and Strive announce acquisition of Bitcoin for $182.7 million, breaking the 86,000-dollar mark
The spot price of Bitcoin rose above $86,000 on Monday, the same day that two major institutional holders announced their stock increases. Strategy and Strive bought a combined 2,305 units of Bitcoin , totaling $182.7 million in reinforcements for this week's opening round. This move came against a backdrop of currency prices rising 6% in one day, showing large holding firms still maintaining buying momentum as markets warm up.
The two companies have separately disclosed the details of their holdings.
According to regulatory filings filed by Strategy, the company purchased 9,500,000 units of Bitcoin last week for $75.7 million, its first resumption since August. Meanwhile, Strive bought 1,355, Bitcoin units for $107.7 million.
In terms of price, the Bitcoin touched $86,282 in Monday's trading and then reported $86.008, up about 6% over 24 hours.
Strategy resumes buying and repurchasing preferred shares
As the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder, Strategy simultaneously repurchased approximately $174 million in STRC perpetual preferred stock. The company suspended its coin purchases this year to use funds for share buybacks and accumulating cash reserves, at times even selling small amounts of its Bitcoin holdings, despite founder and chairman Michael Saylor's long-held stance that it would never sell Bitcoin shares.
After a 10-week lull, the company restarted its purchases in the last week of August, investing nearly $370 million that week. Its Bitcoin total holdings currently stand at about 846,000 units, or approximately $72.7 billion at current prices.
Strive, on the other hand, has continued to climb in its weekly buyout rankings. The NASDAQ-listed company now ranks fifth with 26,355 shares out of Bitcoin and is valued at about $2.2 billion.
On Monday, Strategy stock (NASDAQ:MSTR) was up 8 percent; Strive's share price fell slightly but broke $30 on Friday to surpass the target set by most Wall Street analysts.
The industry as a whole is under pressure, with limited macro-interference
The year 2026 is not going to be an easy one for the Bitcoin treasury companies. Strategy, Satsuma, Smarter Web Company, Sequans, Nakamoto and Empire Digital have all sold Bitcoin of their shares this year in order to pay off debts, maintain operations or buy back stock; others have gone bankrupt or switched to AI infrastructure businesses as stocks plummeted below them.
Despite the blocking of key crypto legislation such as the Clarity Act during legislative proceedings last week and the Fed's announcement of a rate hike, there was limited market reaction to both news, with prices at $ Bitcoin still strong earlier this week. The current price is more than 30% below its all-time high of $126,080 set in October last year.
